Monday through Friday – 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Saturday – 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Emergency Appointments

Any time 24 hours a day. Because our pets don’t always need health care during “business hours” we try to be available when you need us. You may call us 24 hours a day if your pet has an emergency. We will arrange for your pet to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Our Staff


Donn W. Griffith, D.V.M., M.S., with Sebastian & AJ

Dr. Griffith received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University and his Master of Science in Zoo Preventive Medicine from The Ohio State University. He is certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Dr. Griffith has owned and directed the Animal Medical & Emergency Hospital since 1970 and Ohio Holistic Veterinary Service since 1985. Dr. Griffith is a Past-President of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.

Carol Rader, D.V.M., with Chip

Dr. Rader received her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at The Ohio State University. An Upper Arlington graduate, Dr. Rader has practiced veterinary medicine and surgery since 1986 in Columbus and Cleveland.  She is the proud parent of several rescued dogs and cats. She enjoys sewing, beading, gardening, and traveling.

Margo, B.S.,  R.V.T., with G, Juniper & Meg

Margo graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.  After four years of work in the engineering field, she decided to follow her heart, enrolling in Columbus State and earning an associate degree in Veterinary Technology. (She’s too humble to tell you that she was the class valedictorian.) Margo has two dogs and two daughters.  She teaches swimming at the “Y” and enjoys movies, exercising, and camping.

Sandy, R.V.T., B.S., with Gina & Theo 

As a student in a Cleveland high school, Sandy completed a two-year vocational animal care program.  She worked in a Maple Heights animal care center as a kennel caretaker/veterinary assistant for five years.  She attended the first year of the Veterinary Technician program at Cuyahoga Community College in Parma. and the second year at Columbus State Community College.  Sandy’s internships were at the Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital and Children’s Hospital in the Animal Research wing.  Later, she completed a B.S. in Microbiology from the Ohio State University.  Currently Sandy works as a Registered Veterinary Technician for us and for the Ohio Department of Agriculture. A busy mom to a son, a daughter, four German Shepherds and seven cats, she is also a breeder of German Shepherds.

Barb, R.V.T., with Boomer

Barb is a graduate of Upper Arlington High School. She also attended Columbus Technical Institute, now known as Columbus State Community College, earning an Associate Degree in Animal Health. She resides in New Albany with her husband Brad and their black Labrador, Boomer. Barb and Brad enjoy sailing on Lake Erie with their four children and two grandchildren. Barb has a long history of bringing perennials from her home garden to our yard at AMEH. She’s an avid gardener. We are grateful to have had Barb on the staff for all of her adult life!

Gayle, B.S. 

Gayle grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She graduated from the University of Utah, spent two years traveling the U.S. and Canada for Kappa Kappa Gamma, then met and married Dr. Griffith.  They have two daughters, two sons, and eight grandchildren.  Gayle loves to pitch in wherever needed at the hospital and having the chance to work with such talented and dedicated animal lovers.

Karen, B.S., with Theo

Karen graduated from Wilmington College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and a concentration in Animal Science. She grew up on a farm in Hamler, Ohio. She, husband Tyler, and their daughter live in Mount Vernon with their dog, Remi.  Karen enjoys scrapbooking and cooking, and her favorite past-time is being a full-time mom to their two-year-old daughter. You will find Karen at our front desk two Saturdays each month.

John, B.A., with Ringo

John joined the team with great excitement and a team attitude like we have never seen. He’s really excited about helping clients to understand, care for, and love their one, two, three, and four-legged fur babies. A home-grown kid from Upper Arlington, John is a graduate of Otterbein University, where he majored in Spanish.  He is a certified yoga instructor.

Beth, R.V.T., with Archie

Beth received her Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology from Columbus State Community College. She volunteered for five years and worked one summer as a Rehabilitation Technician at the Ohio Wildlife Center, caring for several native wildlife species of Ohio. She worked for a small animal clinic in her hometown of Chillicothe before coming to the big city to join our team.  She takes great interest in caring for her canine, feline, and exotic patients and helping her co-workers. Beth lives in Chillicothe with one dog, three cats, two rats, and a hedgehog.  She enjoys playing video games, watching Anime, reading Manga, listening to music, and going to conventions that support those activities.

Hunter with Cooper

Hunter Frobose is currently in her undergraduate study at The Ohio State University majoring in Animal BioScience as a pre-veterinarian focus. Hunter comes from a family farm in Pemberville, Ohio and has enjoyed working with animals her whole life. Hunter is a vet assistant and kennel technician for us here at Animal Medical and Emergency Hospital.

Justin, B.S. with AJ

Justin was born and raised in Columbus. Growing up with a mom who is a veterinarian sparked his interest in animals at an early age. His menagerie included cockatiels, cats, toads, newts, anols, rats, crabs, fish, turtles, a toad, an iguana, and a dog. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a major in Biology and minor in Animal Sciences. He hopes to further his passion for animals by attending a college of veterinary medicine.
